Preparing for our final exam

I've posted the questions for the final exam (the handout from class) on our Angel site, in case anyone needs it. I've also included the list of people who said they may want to get a study group together. If anyone wants to add themselves to the list, I'll set it up so that you can.

Remember to bring your list of blog posts/comments to the final exam session if you didn't hand it in yesterday!

Bookstore/Library Assignment

For the last assignment, I went to the East Lansing Public Library and Barnes and Noble on Gd River. I found that Barnes and Noble seemed more interested in the sale, and that they had as many toys and gifts as they did books. I was wondering if this was true at any other stores that people in the class visited.

Have a good break everyone

I went to both the East Lansing Public library and Barnes & Noble on Grand River as well, but I found that the library had way to many toys that could distract young readers from actually picking out a book. The children I saw at Barnes & Noble weren't even interested in the toys, but the children in the library went straight to the toys and ignored the books. I know that the toys might have been mainly for very young children that have not started reading for pleassure, but some older children were playing too.

I noticed the same thing when I went into Barnes and Nobel too. At first, I loved the setup and design of the children's section...unlike the library, which looked like a library, the children's section in Barnes and Nobel actually looked like something out of a children's book. However, cause of the recent bookstore assignment, it became apparent at how the bookstore was trying to have the parent at least buy the children some type of toy before leaving the store. Stacks upon stacks of "toys and gifts" were intermixed with stacks trying promote reading to children.
