Preparing for our final exam

I've posted the questions for the final exam (the handout from class) on our Angel site, in case anyone needs it. I've also included the list of people who said they may want to get a study group together. If anyone wants to add themselves to the list, I'll set it up so that you can.

Remember to bring your list of blog posts/comments to the final exam session if you didn't hand it in yesterday!

Uglies

After reading "Uglies", I was immediately reminded of the film, "Stepford Wives". In both "Uglies" and "Stepford Wives" the theme of conformity and body image is very evident. I thought both works were very interesting and fitting to todays society. Both send messages that it is important to hold onto your individuality, and to not lose who you are by conforming to ideas of beauty.

I most definitely agree. In both the movie and the book those in charge of the community decided to use Brainwashing as a source of control , and made beauty and image a very prevalent factor in everyday life

I never thought of the similarity between Uglies and Stepford Wives until you mentioned it. I think this is a great comparison because in both the movie and book, the women thrive to be something they are not. They have the mentalality of being "perfect" in everything they do, to what they say, to how they look. The only differences is that in Stepford Wives, the men obviously dont see the women for their inter-beauty, they almost want to "show off" what perfect wives they have. Which is unlike David in Uglies, since he liked Tally for who she was and not what she looked like. He was proud of what she achieved not the perfection of the things shes achieved.
