Preparing for our final exam

I've posted the questions for the final exam (the handout from class) on our Angel site, in case anyone needs it. I've also included the list of people who said they may want to get a study group together. If anyone wants to add themselves to the list, I'll set it up so that you can.

Remember to bring your list of blog posts/comments to the final exam session if you didn't hand it in yesterday!

Jack and the beanstalk

Retold by John Cech, Illustrated by Robert Mackenzie, published by 2008
Jack and the Beanstalk is an English fairy tale, closely associated with the tale of Jack the Giant Killer.
In fact, Jack and the Beanstalk have several versions. The well known author is Joseph Jacobs. He wrote a story that is general thing in these days and my book also follows Joseph’s version, but he gave up the justification for the hero. The surface story line looks like simple. Jack and his mother are stricken by poverty. He takes the cow to the market and trades her for five magic beans. His angry mother throws the beans out the window. The next morning there is a huge beanstalk. He climbs the beanstalk and steals belongings from the giant that lives at the top. After a few times of stealing from the giant, the giant catches on and chases Jack. Jack cuts down the stalk and kills the giant. However, Jacobs version, there is no reason why the jack, our hero, steals the giant’s stuff and kills the giant. Although giant describes to as villain in the book, that can not be justified the jack’s action.
Other versions, jack’s action describes to the self-defense. In Tabart's version, a giant’s wife explains to Jack that the giant had robbed and killed his father, thus transforming the acts into justice.
This book is based on the third person viewpoint. Author’s voice is objective and tries to explain a story line. Style of art is representational expression, so it describes each character as literal, realistic depictions. Illustration is generally focused on the bright and colorful feeling.
